ECE @ Northeastern · Boston, MA

Hardware, code, and everything in between.

I'm Dawson Rose, an Electrical & Computer Engineering student at Northeastern University. I work across embedded systems, CAD and fabrication, and product, from EMG-driven assistive music devices to a startup trading app.

About

I've been using PCs since I was a kid, and I've always wanted to know how they actually work.

Heading into my senior year of high school, I wasn't sure what I wanted to do. A short stint in the robotics club settled it: I wanted to spend college building the hardware and code behind the machines I'd grown up with.

Electrical and computer engineering feels like the field most visibly at the front of human progress and innovation, and that's where I want to be. At Northeastern I'm doing that through hands-on builds: assistive devices, arcade machines, escape-room puzzles, and now circuit boards with Northeastern Electric Racing.

Projects

Muscle to Music setup: three round electrodes wired through a braided cable into a black 3D-printed case, connected by USB to a laptop running the EMG Synth Studio app with a live flex graph and note keys // final build
Jan 2026 – Apr 2026Enabling Engineering

Muscle to Music: EMG Instrument

An instrument for students at the William E. Carter School who can't hold a regular one. They play notes by flexing their jaw or neck. A student used it in class, and it worked.

  • Soldered the connections between the electrodes and the Myoware muscle sensors
  • Led the search for electrodes that gave a clean signal. I made a spreadsheet of options and set aside budget to test them.
  • Fought noise with solid solder joints and a nylon braided cable cover

Fantasy Stock Trading App

A fantasy-football-style iOS app where users draft and manage portfolios of paper equities.

  • Co-founded and built the app in Xcode using Claude Code
  • Lead product strategy and pitch development for the Husky Startup Challenge, competing against 15 teams

Centrifuge puzzle: a gray 3D-printed centrifuge holding six corked green vials, on a control unit with a display and buttons, mounted on a black base with red and blue buttons and LED columns // final build
Jan 2026 – Apr 2026Live event · 40+ players

Escape Room Centrifuge Puzzle

A centrifuge-style puzzle built and delivered on deadline for a live escape room event.

  • Engineered the mechanism in SolidWorks
  • Designed the electrical housing in Illustrator and cut it on a commercial-grade laser cutter
  • Integrated glass vials, 3D-printed parts, and electronics into the final build (4-person team)

Cyclone arcade game: a laser-cut wooden box with finger-jointed edges, a ring of LEDs around the CYCLONE logo, a small display, and blue Start and gray Stop buttons // final build
Nov 2025 – Dec 20257 laser-cut parts

Cyclone Arcade Game

A classic Cyclone arcade game: a light spins around a ring and players try to stop it on the target.

  • Designed the enclosure in AutoCAD and laser cut 7 parts for assembly
  • Programmed the Arduino game logic for the timed spinning-light sequence (4-person team)

Northeastern Electric Racing: First PCB

Working toward designing and producing an original circuit board by the end of the semester.

  • Learning Altium Designer through the club's new-member onboarding program
  • Practicing schematic design and component placement during weekly bay times
